Employment Training Center
A Good Idea
Description
The goal of the Employment Training Center (ETC) is to provide at-risk, low-income youth and young adults living in San Francisco, CA with training in the green construction field in order to help them gain vital life and employment skills and achieve self-sufficiency.
ETC runs three classes each year, each lasting for 14 weeks with 35 hours of training per week. Mornings are always dedicated to vocational training, which includes lessons about green building practices and more specific training in carpentry, power tools, codes, etc. Afternoons are reserved for life skills development and GED classes for students that have not graduated from high school. After students graduate from the program, they receive job referrals and retention aid for up to 2 years.
